Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
High Standard target pistols were manufactured in a variety of models in .22 Short and .22 Long Rifle chamberings for use in competition. One selling point was the similarity in grip angle and manual safety location to the M1911A1 series, a pistol common in service pistol competition. Manufactured from 1926 until 2018, High Standards are generally regarded as a classic .22 target pistol and were common in national-level NRA Bullseye match shooting. Popular models include the High Standard Victor, Supermatic, Supermatic Citation, Supermatic Trophy, and Olympic. Today, High Standards are popular among gun collectors. Series 106 is referred to as the military model; this series was designed to provide the same grip angle and feel as the Colt Military Model 1911. This design was introduced in 1965 and continued through most of 1968.

The design utilized the tooling of the 104 Series guns, which resulted in the occasional appearance of a bullet-shaped brass design in the rear grip strap when the spring hole was not properly plugged. This design appears as both a full bullet shape and only the outline. The magazines in this series have a red plastic bottom, and the right side of the frame is marked "MODEL 106"/"MILITARY."
