The High Standard Derringer DM-101 is one of the most recognizable American-made pocket pistols of the mid-20th century, designed as a compact, double-action-only, two-shot over-under handgun chambered in .22 LR or .22 WMR. First introduced around 1962 in Hamden, Connecticut, with production beginning at approximately serial number 1,261,903, the DM-101 followed a lineage of derringers that carried forward the traditional appeal of small, concealable defensive handguns while incorporating modernized construction and design features. With its 3½-inch barrels stacked vertically in an over/under configuration, it was mechanically simple yet rugged, providing a “last-ditch” self-defense option. The pistol’s double-action-only mechanism allowed both barrels to be fired in succession without manual cocking, making it quick to operate under stress.
