This particular Hi-Standard Model B is a desirable pre-war model that was produced between 1934 and 1935. This example also features a low serial number, making this a highly collectible model!

The High-Standard Model B is a semi-automatic pistol that features simple sights and a grip angle reminiscent of the Government Model; however, its controls differed significantly from those of the larger .45 caliber service pistol. Notably, it was hammerless and utilized a distinct 10-round magazine that loaded differently. The Model B was also disassembled in a manner unlike the M1911. Despite these differences, it was considered suitable for teaching fundamental gun handling and marksmanship skills. Early production models maintained a civilian appearance, but beginning at approximately serial number 99261, the frame underwent minor design changes, resulting in the new military-designated Model B-US. These military variants were equipped with 4 1/2-inch barrels, finished in a parkerized coating similar to that of the M1911, and standard military ownership markings. During World War II, High-Standard was the exclusive supplier of .22 Long Rifle training pistols to the U.S. Army. The initial model adopted was the Model B, which was later superseded in 1942 by the Model HD—favored for its ergonomics and its closer appearance to the M1911 Government Model. Overall, the High-Standard Model B remains a highly collectible piece and shows the excellent craftsmanship from that period.
