Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this semi-automatic pistol today for a penny-start auction; this is the High Standard Supermatic Trophy.

A High Standard Supermatic Trophy bearing an “ML” serial number prefix was manufactured by High Standard Inc. in East Hartford, Connecticut, during the late 1970s through the early 1980s, with ML-prefix serial numbers first introduced on July 22, 1975 and continuing through the East Hartford production era from approximately 1977 to 1984. These pistols span both the Leisure Group period and later High Standard Inc. production, with documented examples dated to 1978, 1980, and 1981. The ML-series Supermatic Trophy remained largely unchanged from earlier versions, typically featuring a blued finish, gold-toned trigger, magazine release, and safety, and often fitted with a fluted barrel. Identification is straightforward, as the “ML” prefix is followed by a five-digit serial number, and although rollmarked “Supermatic Trophy,” many examples are commonly associated with the Model 9247 designation.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The High Standard Supermatic Trophy is a classic American target pistol, and this example bearing serial number ML70299 falls within the desirable ML-prefix production run manufactured in East Hartford, Connecticut. ML-prefix serial numbers were introduced on July 22, 1975, with production continuing through the late 1970s and early 1980s, a period that includes both the Leisure Group era and later High Standard Inc. manufacturing. Chambered in .22 Long Rifle, the Supermatic Trophy was designed for precision target shooting, and its 7¼-inch fluted barrel reflects that purpose by offering excellent balance, reduced weight, and consistent accuracy. The blued finish and traditional target configuration place this model firmly among High Standard’s most respected competition pistols.

This pistol retains the hallmark features that made the Supermatic Trophy a favorite among serious shooters, including adjustable square-cut rear sights paired with a blade front sight for precise sight alignment. Checkered walnut grips with an integrated thumb rest enhance control and ergonomics during slow-fire and timed-fire competition. The semi-automatic action is known for smooth operation and reliability with quality .22 LR ammunition. While rollmarked simply as “Supermatic Trophy,” ML-series examples like this are often associated with the Model 9247 designation, and today they are valued for their combination of competitive performance, classic styling, and their place in the final chapter of High Standard’s East Hartford production history.
