Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The IMBEL FZ SA is the Brazilian licensed, metric-pattern version of the FN FAL, produced by Indústria de Material Bélico do Brasil (IMBEL), a state-owned defense company formally established in 1975 to coordinate the nation’s military-industrial production, though its arms factories trace back earlier; built under license from FN Herstal’s famous FAL design by Belgian engineer Dieudonné Saive, IMBEL rifles were widely exported and, in the U.S., many semi-automatic “FZ SA” models were imported by Pacific Armament, typically chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, with parkerized finishes, synthetic furniture, metric receivers and gas systems, and barrels in the 20"–22.5" range often fitted with removable flash hiders or bipods, while civilian imports are easily identified by Brazilian receiver markings such as “Fz SA 7,62” alongside importer stamps.
