Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Hudson H9, a semi-automatic pistol produced by now-defunct Hudson Mfg, was unveiled at the 2017 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada following three years of development. It integrated several patented and patent-pending features into a novel pistol design. Established design elements included a straight-pull trigger akin to the M1911, a short-recoil operated system, and the magazine tube from the S&W 5900 series. New design innovations comprised forward barrel cams ahead of the trigger-guard, a sear design that combined a straight-pull trigger with a striker-fired system while ensuring drop safety, the positioning of the recoil spring, and the integration of an insert chassis with a steel frame. These components contributed to its distinctive appearance.
The H9, a striker-fired pistol initially chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum, weighed 34 oz (960 g) and held 15 rounds. This weight aligned it with traditional aluminum frame handguns such as the Beretta M9, Sig P226, and Sig P229. Achieving this weight with all-steel construction was unusual, accomplished through the insert and grip construction (often referred to as a frame) and redistributing the pistol's surface area. Normally, all-steel pistols like the 1911 (43 oz), the 5906 (38 oz), and the CZ-75 SP-01 (40.5 oz) are heavier than their aluminum counterparts.
