The Intratec TEC-9, TEC-DC9, KG-99, and AB-10 are a series of semi-automatic pistols that operate using the blowback mechanism. These firearms were developed by Intratec, which is an American subsidiary of Interdynamic AB, a Swedish firearms manufacturer. The TEC-9 was first introduced in 1984 and was made of molded polymers and a combination of stamped and milled steel parts. Its simple design made it easy to repair and modify, which contributed to its commercial success - over 250,000 units were sold.
However, in 1994, the TEC-9 model and TEC-DC9 variants, along with 19 other firearms, were banned nationally in the United States under the Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) that has since expired. This ban forced Intratec to stop manufacturing these models and to develop a newer one. In 1995, the AB-10 (which stands for "After Ban") was introduced as a TEC-9 Mini, without a threaded muzzle/barrel shroud, and with a smaller 10-round magazine instead of the 20- or 32-round magazines that came with the pre-ban TEC-9 models. However, the AB-10 still accepted the larger capacity magazines, which were often used by users instead of the standard magazine.
