Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Intratec TEC-22 is a semi-automatic handgun that uses .22 Long Rifle ammunition. It was also known as the Scorpion and Sport-22. The TEC-22 operates with a straight blow-back action and is made of molded plastic and stamped metal parts. Its simple design and materials make it an inexpensive firearm. The TEC-22 can use magazines and drums that are made for the widely popular Ruger 10/22 rifle. The TEC-22 pistol's frame/receiver is made of ABS plastic and is molded in a single piece. The bolt guides at the bottom of the bolt are the only machined parts of the receiver. To keep the bolt in place, a stamped steel receiver cover is placed over it.

The receiver cover hinges from the front of the frame and latches onto the rear of the bolt assembly. The bolt assembly includes a cast steel bolt that rides on a spring and follower. A thin firing pin channel runs down the center of the bolt, allowing the stamped firing pin to be struck by the hammer and impact the cartridge at the front of the bolt. While the TEC-22 can use 10/22 magazines, Intratec, the manufacturer, produced and sold its brand of 15- and 30-round double-stack magazines for the pistol. A small, ambidextrous switch is located on the frame to enable a trigger block safety. A hinged door at the bottom of the grip provides a small storage compartment.
