Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this notorious semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction; this is the Intratec Tec-9.
The pre-ban Intratec TEC-9 is an iconic semi-automatic pistol of the late 20th century, recognized for its distinctive profile and original factory configuration prior to the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban. Manufactured with features such as high-capacity magazine compatibility and early production markings, pre-ban examples represent the pistol in its original, unrestricted form. Today, these early TEC-9s are increasingly sought after by collectors for their historical significance, cultural notoriety, and the clear distinctions that separate them from later, compliance-modified variants.
According to the consigner, this example remains in NEW OLD STOCK condition, and we see no evidence to indicate otherwise!

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Intratec TEC-9 is one of the most recognizable semi-automatic pistols of the late 20th century, known for its distinctive polymer-and-steel construction and unconventional design. Introduced in the mid-1980s by Intratec of Miami, Florida, the TEC-9 was chambered in 9×19mm and utilized a simple blowback operating system with a closed-bolt configuration in later variants. Its threaded barrel shroud, large-capacity detachable magazines, and utilitarian sights gave it a futuristic appearance that set it apart from traditional handguns. Early models such as the KG-9 were open-bolt designs before regulatory changes led to the closed-bolt TEC-9, TEC-9 Mini, and later AB-10 variants.

Beyond its mechanical characteristics, the TEC-9 occupies a significant place in American firearms history due to its cultural visibility and the legislative attention it attracted. The pistol became emblematic of the era’s debates over high-capacity magazines and so-called “assault weapons,” contributing to its inclusion in the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban. As a result, original pre-ban examples and factory-configured models have become increasingly collectible, valued as historical artifacts rather than purely functional firearms. Today, the Intratec TEC-9 is studied as much for its impact on firearms legislation and popular culture as for its straightforward engineering and role in the evolution of modern semi-automatic pistols.
