Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ithaca 200E is part of Ithaca’s well-regarded line of boxlock side-by-side shotguns introduced during the 1960s, a period when American manufacturers were responding to renewed interest in traditional double-guns for upland hunting. Unlike earlier Ithaca doubles that were built in-house, the 200-series was produced for Ithaca by SKB of Japan, whose outstanding machining, steel quality, and finish work quickly earned a reputation for putting out some of the best-value doubles on the U.S. market. The “E” designation signifies factory-installed ejectors, placing the 200E above the basic extractor-only Model 200 and aligning it with more premium upland offerings of its era. Lightweight, well-balanced, and mechanically robust, the model was designed for hunters who wanted European-style performance without the high cost of English or Belgian doubles. Over time, the 200E gained a reputation for exceptional durability, smooth operation, and clean handling, traits that set SKB-built Ithacas apart from many contemporary American doubles. The guns featured chrome-lined bores, tight lockup, reliable ejector systems, and attractive walnut stocks—making them both functional field tools and refined sporting arms. Their blend of craftsmanship and affordability created a loyal following, and today the Ithaca 200E is viewed as one of the best mid-century side-by-side values. Collectors appreciate them for their build quality, while upland hunters still seek them for their lively feel, predictable patterns, and long service life. In many ways, the 200E represents the ideal of the working gentleman’s shotgun: elegant enough to admire, rugged enough to carry into the field for decades.
