J. P. Sauer und Sohn GmbH (Sauer & Sohn) is the oldest firearms manufacturer still active in Germany. The company, founded in 1751 by Lorenz Sauer in Suhl in the duchy of Saxe-Hildburghausen, is known for its firearms and machinery. The products of this company are frequently referred to as Sauer. The locality of Suhl has historically been known as Waffenstadt Suhl due to its many gunmakers. J.P. Sauer & Sohn is the oldest recorded gun maker in Germany. In 1815, Johann-Gottlob Sauer took over the management of the firm, and in 1835, Johann Paul Sauer became the manager. In 1840, Johann Paul and his son, Lorenz Sauer, created the new name and trademark of J.P. Sauer & Sohn. This J.P. Sauer & Sohn double-action revolver is a Model SR3. It features a 6-inch vent-ribbed barrel with a pinned patridge undercut front sight and an adjustable square-notched rear sight. The revolver has a blue finish and is equipped with checkered walnut target grips with a right-handed thumb rest.
