The Johnson Automatic much more rare and desirable than the other WWII rifles such as the M1 Garand , M1 Carbine, and the Thompson.
According to the owner, this example has been professionally restored by Ed Silva and Miltech Arms. It has only had approximately 20 rounds fired since the restoration.
According to the Miltech website "Restored to exact military specifications, the M1941 Johnson is a very rare firearm designed prior to WWII by a Marine Corps Captain. The quick change barrel and a ten-round magazine that can be reloaded during firing are but two of the many unique M1941 Johnson innovations. The M1941 Johnson was used by the Marine Raiders and the Para-Marines at the beginning of World War II and served as their main semi-auto rifle until adoption of the M1 Garand in late 1942."

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Johnson Rifle is an American short-recoil-operated semi-automatic rifle designed by Melvin Johnson prior to World War II. Although the Johnson Rifle was used in limited numbers by the US Marines during the Second World War, it unsuccessfully competed with the contemporary M1 Garand rifle.
In the mid-1930s, the U.S. Army was in search of a semi-automatic rifle. John Garand from the Springfield Armory won the tender with his design. However, Melvin Johnson, a lawyer, Marine officer, and gun hobbyist, was unsure about the reliability of the adopted design. He decided to develop his own rifle. By February 1936, he had a working model with an unprecedented 10 locking lugs in its rotating bolt, manufactured for $300. In April, Johnson filed for a patent, and by August, the first complete prototype rifle was finished. He continued the development while Garand's design was being refined. In 1938-40, the early prototype model R-14 rifle had a supported mount for a sword bayonet, such as the M1905 bayonet pattern, despite failing the US Army trial.
