The Kel-Tec P-11 is a lightweight semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm Luger. It was produced by Kel-Tec CNC Industries from 1995 to 2019 in Cocoa, FL. The designer of the P-11 was George Kellgren, who had previously designed firearms for Husqvarna, Intratec, and Grendel brands. The P-11 features an aluminum receiver inside a polymer grip housing, which is held in place by polymer pins. The slide, barrel, and magazine are made of steel. The standard magazine capacity of the P-11 is 10 rounds. The P-11 does not have an external manual safety; instead, it has a long and heavy double-action-only trigger pull that requires 9 pounds of pressure to prevent accidental discharge. The P-11 also has a firing pin spring and low-mass hammer that prevent discharge if the gun is dropped. The P-11 is compatible with some Smith & Wesson 59 series magazines, and an adapter is available that can wrap around the base of 15-round Smith & Wesson model 59-style magazines. The P-11 can also use Smith & Wesson series 69 compact 12-round magazines with a matching short adapter sleeve. The P-11 was specifically designed for concealed carry and was intended to be used by law enforcement officials and members of the general public. It was marketed to individuals who wanted a firearm that was both concealable and capable of firing a powerful defensive cartridge. The barrel of the P-11 was designed to be as short as possible while still operating with a Browning tilting-barrel system. The gun was small enough to fit comfortably into a pocket, a small holster, or inside a handbag. All of the edges of the pistol were rounded and smoothed out to prevent any discomfort when carrying it concealed. Additionally, the P-11 was designed with minimal protrusions that could catch on a pocket holster, a deep concealment holster, or an inside-the-waistband holster.
