Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Kel-Tec PF-9 is a 9mm semi-automatic pistol that operates using recoil and a double-action-only mechanism with a locked breech. It is based on Kel-Tec's earlier models, P-11 and P-3AT, and shares many of their parts. Kel-Tec claims that the PF-9 is the lightest and flattest 9mm pistol ever mass-produced. It was designed for use as a concealed carry or backup weapon for both law enforcement personnel and civilians. Kel-Tec announced the release of the PF-9 on February 9, 2006, and it entered the market in the same year's fall. However, PF-9 production was discontinued after the introduction of the P15.
The PF-9 is a popular pistol made in Cocoa, Florida, using advanced CNC manufacturing techniques. It consists of six main components: barrel, slide, frame, grip, trigger group, and magazine. The barrel and slide are made from SAE/AISI 4140 steel, hardened to a specific plate number. The trigger group is machined from a solid billet of 7075-T56 aluminum, featuring a transfer bar system that connects the hammer and trigger. The pistol has a firing pin block safety that prevents accidental discharge if dropped. The long double-action-only trigger pull adds an extra layer of safety. The slide hold-open feature locks the slide in place after the last round is fired. The frame is made of high-strength DuPont ST-8018 polymer and houses the 7-round, single-column steel magazine. The sights are windage-adjustable, with a fixed front blade and a notched rear sight featuring three white dots for visibility in low-light conditions. Lastly, the PF-9 has an accessory rail that can be used to mount lights and lasers.
The PF-9 handgun is a combination of Kel-Tec's P-11 and P-3AT models, using many of their original parts. It features a modified barrel, trigger, ejector, and front sight from the P-11, along with the extractor and various springs from the P-3AT. The PF-9 offers options for the grip color and slide finish, including blued, Parkerized, ceramic (Cerakote), and hard chromed finishes.
