Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Kimber of Oregon Model 84 is a finely finished bolt-action centerfire rifle produced by the original Kimber company in Clackamas, Oregon (the Warne brothers’ Kimber of Oregon operation). It was offered in a wide range of configurations — from light mountain/tactical-style 84M variants to Classic and Super America hunting/varmint grades — and was known for hand-fitting, quality walnut stocks, and precise barrels on a sturdy short action. Kimber of Oregon built these rifles from roughly the early 1980s until the company’s original operations wound down around 1991, after which Kimber’s name and product lines evolved under different ownership/locations. From a collector and shooter perspective the Model 84 is prized for its build quality and the variety of chamberings (common centerfire chambers such as .223/.222 plus rarer calibers like 6x45, .221 Fireball and small magnum/varmint rounds), which affects desirability and price — unusual chamberings and high-grade “Select” or Super Varmint examples bring premiums. Magazines, certain parts, and original factory documentation can be hard to find for the Oregon-made rifles, which also contributes to collector interest; sale prices on auction sites and specialist dealers show healthy demand for good, original examples. As a shooter the action and barrels are generally regarded as accurate and well-finished for their era, making a nicely preserved Model 84 both a pleasant field rifle and an interesting piece for a Kimber collector.
