Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Grizzly Win Mag pistols were created by Perry Arnett, the sole inventor, in the 1980s. He invented, designed, engineered, and developed a semi-automatic pistol that could have interchangeable calibers. He later licensed his patent to L.A.R. Manufacturing Inc. However, Perry Arnett's designs were initially flawed and required improvements. Heinz Augat, former owner and founder of L.A.R. Manufacturing Inc., improved upon the designs. The L.A.R. Grizzly was the most powerful semi-automatic pistol ever commercially produced after the Desert Eagle. The Mark V was chambered in .50 AE to compete with the IMI Desert Eagle. The LAR Grizzly pistol was a modified Colt-style pistol with oversized components designed to handle larger, more powerful cartridges than the standard-size 1911 pistol. Perry Arnett's original prototype was made from two Colt 1911 frames and slides cut and welded to accommodate the .45 Winchester Magnum round. The slide flats were welded with two steel doubler plates to retard the action and increase strength. From 1983 to 1999, L.A.R. Manufacturing Inc. produced approximately 15,000 guns in four versions that could fire six different cartridges. Each gun was hand-fitted and capable of high accuracy. The standard Grizzly models usually had a 5.5" slide fitted with a 6.5" barrel that extended one inch beyond the slide. Less commonly, the Grizzly had a 5.5" barrel combined with a factory-fitted bushing-style recoil compensator.
