Initially produced between 1909 and 1911, the rifle was updated in 1911 to feature an improved safety mechanism, leading to the introduction of the Model 27-S. Although production of the Model 27-S began in 1911, it was briefly paused during World War I. After the war, production resumed and continued until the rifle was discontinued in 1932. The Model 27 was chambered in two calibers: .25-20 Winchester Center Fire (WCF) and .32-20 Winchester Center Fire (WCF). It featured a 24-inch barrel, with early models boasting octagon barrels, while later versions switched to round barrels.
