The Mauser Modelo Argentino M1891 is one of the most historically significant and aesthetically admired bolt-action military rifles of the late 19th century, representing Argentina’s effort to modernize its armed forces with one of the most advanced infantry arms of the time. Adopted by the Argentine military in 1891, this rifle was based on an evolved form of the earlier Mauser repeating rifle designs and was produced in large numbers for Argentina’s Army and auxiliary troops, with approximately 180,000 rifles and 30,000 carbines contracted from German manufacturers such as Ludwig Loewe & Company and, after 1896, Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) in Berlin. The model was chambered in the 7.65×53?mm Argentine Mauser cartridge, a rimless, bottlenecked round designed for smokeless powder that offered excellent ballistic performance for its era and contributed to the rifle’s reputation for accuracy and effective range.
