Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Mosin Nagant M91/30 is a venerable bolt-action rifle that has earned its place in military history through decades of service and widespread production. Chambered in the potent 7.62x54R, the M91/30 exemplifies the reliability and durability of early 20th-century military firearms. This model features a 28 ½-inch barrel finished in a deep blue, which not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also provides a robust layer of protection against the elements. The long barrel contributes to the rifle’s accuracy and range, a crucial advantage in the conflicts it was designed to address. Developed between 1882 and 1891 and subsequently adopted by the Russian Empire, the Mosin Nagant rifle was one of the most mass-produced bolt-action rifles in history, with over 37 million units manufactured. The M91/30 variant became the most common version of this iconic rifle, with its production spanning from 1930 to 1945. It was widely issued to Soviet infantry during World War II, and many of the earlier Dragoon rifles were updated to the M91/30 configuration. The rifle's design includes a globe and post front sight coupled with a tangent rear sight, allowing for precise aiming adjustments.

One of the key design changes from its predecessors was the shift from the octagonal receiver to a cylindrical one, which streamlined production and improved the rifle's overall functionality. This specific M91/30, dating back to 1932, features standard Russian proof marks and retains matching stamped numbers on the receiver, bolt, magazine base, and buttplate, highlighting its authenticity and historical significance. The smooth wood stock and forearm contribute to the rifle's classic look and offer a comfortable grip. The rifle’s blue finish, while utilitarian, also imparts a timeless quality to this well-regarded firearm. The M91/30’s robust construction and effective design have allowed it to remain in use well beyond its original service life. Its versatility was further demonstrated during World War II when it was used in various sniper configurations, featuring scopes such as the 3.87×30 PE or the 3.5×21 PU. Though not equipped with these scopes, the standard M91/30 remains a testament to the Mosin Nagant's enduring legacy, embodying a blend of historical importance and functional design that continues to appeal to collectors and shooting enthusiasts alike.
