The O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc. Model 185 is a 20-gauge bolt-action shotgun that was produced between 1947 and 1964. It features a takedown design for easy disassembly, a one-piece walnut stock with a Monte Carlo-style comb, and a detachable two-round box magazine. The Model 185 was offered in a wide range of variants over the years, including the “D”-series (185D, 185D-A, 185D-B, 185D-C), which were made from approximately 1947 to 1958 and used external screw-on choke tubes mounted on the outside of the barrel. Later, the “K”-series models (185K, 185K-A, 185K-B, the less common 185K-C, and 185K-E) were introduced, featuring a C-LECT adjustable choke system and ported barrels, with production continuing up to 1964. Across the line, barrel lengths were typically 26" and weight was roughly 6.25 lbs. Although most variations between sub-variants involve internal mechanisms or the choke system, the Model 185 and its variants were known for their dependable bolt-action mechanism and straightforward design.
