In India, during the first period of the British Empire’s occupation, the Howdah pistols were preferred by the officers of the English army because of their power and reliability. They were mainly used for close range protection from large dangerous game such as tigers, which were known to leap onto the platform attached to the elephants’ back, known as the “Howdah”. The locks are embellished with beautiful engravings featuring wild animals in their natural habitats, and are case hardened to enhance the metal’s luster. The walnut pistol grip stock has been checkered on both sides to grant a firm, comfortable, and stable grip. Fitted with a counterweight on the bottom of the grip, the pistol is easily maneuverable.
