Model: LeMat Cavalry Civil War Tribute “To Live and Die in Dixie”
Serial: L16400
Caliber: .44 Cal.
Finish: Nickel Plated
Barrel Length: 6 ¾" Octagon
Optics/Sights: Dovetail Triangle Post Front with Notched Rear in the Hammer
Stock/Grips: Checkered Walnut
Action: Single-Action, Cap & Ball Percussion Revolver
Markings: Standard / The revolver incorporates the popular fleurs-de-lis and floral scrollwork with a punch dot background– popular with French engravers in the 1860s. The cylinder was done in a drum-style using a fleur-de-lis border, which is repeated around the breech of the grapeshot barrel and around the muzzle of both barrels. Floral scrollwork is also used to decorate the frame, the massive LeMat hammer, spur trigger guard, backstrap, and the shoulders of the grip frame as well as the grip butt plate. After being given a high polish, the entire gun is nickel plated to set off the depth and detail of the engraving that is often lost on blued guns. In addition, the Grapeshot barrel is embellished on both sides with crossed Confederate swords and the legend, “TO LIVE AND DIE IN DIXIE”.
Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Civil War Tribute LeMat "TO LIVE AND DIE IN DIXIE" Revolver is a stunning, limited-edition replica of the famed LeMat Cavalry Revolver, one of the most unique firearms of the Civil War era. Produced by America Remembers in honor of the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, this special edition pays homage to the Confederate soldiers and their leaders, including the legendary General Robert E. Lee and his cavalry commander J.E.B. Stuart, who favored the LeMat for its versatility and sheer firepower. The LeMat was distinctive for its dual-barrel design: a 9-shot .44 caliber revolver cylinder on top and a smoothbore shotgun barrel beneath, capable of firing a grapeshot cartridge—a truly formidable weapon in close combat. Nearly 3,000 original LeMat revolvers were produced and used by the Confederate forces, making them iconic symbols of Southern defiance.
