Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 1100, introduced in 1963, is a notable gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun. It operates by venting gas through ports in the barrel near the fore-end, driving a steel action sleeve that moves the bolt carrier backward to eject spent shells. This mechanism allows a new shell to be released from the magazine, which trips the carrier release. The action spring in the stock then pushes the bolt forward, chambering the fresh shell. The standard Model 1100 can handle 2+3/4-inch shells without adjustments, while Magnum versions can interchangeably use both 2+3/4 and 3-inch shells.
