The Remington Model 1100 autoloading shotgun is ridiculously popular with trap/skeet/sport shooters because it hits the bullseye on price, reliability, availability and features. The type originated as a gas operated 4+1 capacity 5-shot arm introduced in 1963. Remington made millions of them before the company filed for bankruptcy a second time in 2020, shuttering operations. The Remington 1100 is available in 12, 20 and 28 gauges as well as .410 bore. This shotgun is credited with establishing the era of the reliable, highly successful gas operated auto-loading shotguns. In fact the Remington 1100 remains one of the best-selling semi-automatic shotguns in US history. Additionally, in 1978, it set the semi-automatic shotgun record for most shells fired without cleaning, malfunction or parts at 24,000 rounds.
