Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The sleek Remington Model 12 .22 caliber pump-action side-ejection repeating rifle debuted in 1909 and was made for almost 30 years. Though production ended in the 1930s, this straight stock beautiful gun has remained a top-selling pump-action gun with solid-breech, hammerless, takedown engineering. This was Remington’s first pump-action. The side ejection port was a great solution to smoke rising to obscure sightlines and kept empty shells from hitting in unwanted places. The port’s tear drop shape was a nice visual signature.
The Model 12 had many models and improved variants over the years as other designers tweaked the brilliance of John Pedersen’s original design. Pedersen was an innovative Nebraskan son of Danish immigrants. He is less well-known than John Browning, but even Browning considered him the greatest gun designer. Variants included Model 12A, Model 12B, Model 12C, Model 12 CS, and Model 12 CNRA. All had American walnut forends and stocks and plenty of beautiful blued metal parts.
The series entry point was the 12A with a 22” barrel and an overall weight of 4.5 pounds. You could run .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle Ammo through its tube magazine. The Model 12B was the same, albeit chambered only for .22 Short. The Model 12C also used .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle Ammo but had a longer 24” barrel and weighed 5.5 pounds. The Model 12 CS was like the Model 12C but chambered for .22 Rem. Special only. The Model 12 CNRA was chambered for .22 LR only. All these models were made in Ilion, New York.
