Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 1894 AE Grade was part of Remington’s premier line of hammerless, top-break double-barrel shotguns, introduced in 1894 and produced until approximately 1910, with around 42,000 units manufactured. It represented a major advancement in American shotgun design, blending precision craftsmanship with evolving firearm technology. Chambered in 10-, 12-, or 16-gauge, the Model 1894 was offered with either Damascus twist or high-quality ordnance steel barrels, catering to a range of shooter preferences. The “AE” designation indicated a Grade A gun fitted with automatic ejectors, providing a functional combination of solid entry-level finish and enhanced handling for quick reloads. Early production models featured internal hammers, Purdey-style push-button forend releases, and fixed firing pins, while later examples (post-1906) transitioned to floating firing pins and Baker-style snap-on forends.

A unique characteristic of the 1894 series was the inclusion of factory-stamped pattern performance data beneath the barrels, often reflecting 12-gauge patterning with 1¼ oz. #8 shot at roughly 66% and 64% from the left and right barrels, respectively. Today, the Model 1894 AE Grade stands as a prized piece of late 19th-century American gunmaking, valued for its balance of functionality, craftsmanship, and understated elegance.
