Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 25 was manufactured in two calibers - .25-20 and 32.20 - and in both rifle and carbine versions (Model 25R). A total of approximately 31,800 units were produced. Its appearance and design are similar to the Model 12 and Model 14/14 1/2, with a single locking lug on the breechblock that engages a shoulder in the upper receiver. This is a take-down type repeater, with a tubular magazine that can hold up to 10 cartridges in the rifle version. The cartridges are loaded through a door in the right side of the action bar.
The Model 25 was designed by Crawford C. Loomis and John D. Pedersen, who also designed the Model 10 shotgun, the Model 12, Model 14, and Model 14 1/2 rifles, the Model 51 and Model 53 pistols, and the WWI Pedersen Device. After leaving his employment at Remington, Pedersen designed the Pedersen Rifle at Springfield Armory, which competed with the M-1 Garand rifle. The carbine versions of the Model 25 (Model 25R) are rare and highly sought after by collectors, commanding premium prices.
