Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 760 Gamemaster is a centerfire rifle that operates on a pump-action mechanism. It was manufactured by Remington Arms from 1952 to 1981 and replaced the Model 141 in the product lineup. The design of Model 760 allowed it to be fed by a box magazine, which made it capable of using more powerful rounds with spitzer bullets. Eventually, it was succeeded by the Remington Model 7600 series.
After World War II, Remington resumed the production of many of its pre-war firearms. However, this posed a challenge for the company as it had previously manufactured martial arms during the war. The production of military arms forced manufacturers to adopt more economical methods and materials that were not suitable for most earlier designs. To tackle this issue, Remington began creating families of firearms that shared a common design and parts. This design trend began with the Model 11-48 and is still being followed to this day. The Model 870 and 1100 shotguns have a similar construction, styling, and many parts in common with the Model 760 and 740 rifles.
The 760 rifle featured a detachable box magazine, dual action bars, and a removable aluminum trigger group. The bolt of the rifle had 14 locking lugs arranged in an interrupted-thread pattern. These lugs were locked into corresponding lugs in a barrel extension through a cam-rotated bolt. However, this bolt arrangement was problematic, and the interrupted thread lugs were replaced with more conventional lugs on the Model 7600 that succeeded it.
