Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
After World War II, Remington resumed production of its pre-war firearms. However, this presented a challenge for the company as it had previously produced military arms during the war. The production of military arms had resulted in the use of more economical methods and materials that were not adaptable to many earlier designs. To overcome this, Remington developed families of firearms that shared a common design and parts. This approach began with the Model 11-48 and continues today, with models such as the Model 870 and 1100 shotguns sharing similar construction, styling, and many parts with the Model 760 and 740 rifles.
The Model 760 featured a detachable box magazine, dual action bars, and a removable aluminum trigger group. Its bolt had 14 locking lugs arranged in an interrupted-thread pattern, which were locked into corresponding lugs in a barrel extension using a cam-rotated bolt. However, this bolt arrangement proved problematic, and the Model 7600, which replaced it, featured more conventional lugs.
