Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington 40XBR is a legendary single-shot, bolt-action rifle that stands as one of the most revered precision rifles ever produced by an American manufacturer. Developed by Remington’s Custom Shop and introduced in the 1950s, the 40XBR was originally designed for benchrest shooting—a highly disciplined precision shooting sport that demands near-perfect consistency from both rifle and shooter. Chambered in a variety of calibers, though most famously in .22 PPC, .308 Winchester, and .22 BR, the rifle’s hallmark is its exceptional accuracy. Built around the robust Remington 700-style action but crafted to exacting tolerances, the 40XBR features a massive single-shot receiver bedded into a heavy benchrest-style stock, a finely tuned trigger, and a match-grade barrel. Unlike mass-produced models, each 40XBR was assembled with hand-lapped barrels and actions, often blueprinted at the factory to eliminate any mechanical variance, making it capable of sub-minute and even sub-quarter-minute of angle (MOA) accuracy with the right load.
