Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S. PROPERTY/ 22 LONG RIFLE" over the serial number (22735B) and "REMINGTON MODEL40-X" on the side of the receiver.
Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
These rifles were produced in the mid-late 1960s under contract to the US Army and were used as the standard target rifle for all small bore shooting competitions during that time. This rifle has the later pattern heavy weight barrel and the left side of the receiver ring is marked "U.S. PROPERTY / .22 LONG RIFLE" over the serial number. The left receiver side wall is marked "REMINGTON MODEL 40-X" the right rear side of the barrel is marked with the typical Remington barrel proofs and the left side is marked with the barrel date-lot code marking.
Condition and Contents:
As you can see in the many high resolution photos, this Remington is in Superb condition overall showing no indications of extensive consumer use or handling that we can see!
