The Remington Rolling Block rifles were created by E. Remington and Sons, later known as Remington Arms, and were produced from the mid-1860s to the early 20th century. These rifles were highly durable and could withstand the increased pressure of new smokeless powders introduced in the late 1880s.
The Remington Rolling Block rifles were manufactured in various calibers including rimfire and centerfire options such as 12.17x42mm rimfire, 12.17x44mm rimfire, 12.17x44mm rimmed centerfire Swedish and Norwegian cartridges, .43 Spanish (11.15x58mmR), .50-70, .40-70, .45-70, and later in .22 caliber. Later models were produced in .30-06 Springfield, 7mm, 7×57mm Mauser, and 8×50mmR Lebel.
