Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington 48-F Sportsman Premier Grade is a higher-trim variant of the Remington Model 48 series, a family of long-recoil–operated semi-automatic shotguns produced from 1949 to 1969. The Model 48 line was Remington’s first major semi-auto design after the Browning-patented Model 11, retaining the proven long-recoil system but introducing a more streamlined receiver, lighter handling, and updated manufacturing methods. The “Sportsman” designation signified a three-shot configuration tailored to meet hunting regulations of the period, while the F-Grade (Premier Grade) represented the top end of the series, offering upgraded stock wood, factory checkering, and enhanced engraving. As a result, the 48-F combined the rugged mechanical lineage of the early postwar Remington autos with the refined aesthetic touches sought by upland and waterfowl hunters who wanted a gun that functioned flawlessly and looked exceptional in the field.
