This particular Ruger 10/22 receiver comes with a Scottwerx Tommy Gun kit installed. While most people are familiar with the Tommy Gun, it is not commonly associated with the 10/22 platform. The Thompson submachine gun was developed during World War I when John T. Thompson realized the need for a close-quarters weapon for trench warfare, as opposed to the cumbersome rifles that soldiers were issued. Although the prototype was completed, WWI had already ended by then. The Army and Marine Corps evaluated the gun and showed favorable interest in it, but did not place any large orders.
While the military only purchased small numbers, the Tommy Gun was widely used by gangsters and became one of their weapons of choice. It was involved in many bloody incidents, including the infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.
