This particular Ruger No. 1, bearing serial number 928 and chambered in .308 Winchester, is an extraordinarily rare and highly desirable example of the iconic single-shot rifle. According to The Clayton Ruger No. 1 Book and subsequent research, the very first commercially shipped No. 1 was serial number 935 in September 1966, which means that this rifle predates even the first documented shipment and falls within the absolute earliest production range. With only about 7,500 non-prefix rifles ever made before prefix serialization began, examples this low in serial sequence are virtually unheard of on the market.
