Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this highly collectible falling-block single-shot pistol today for a penny-start auction, this is the Sako Finnmaster!

The Sako Finnmaster is an exceptionally rare Olympic Competition Target pistol produced by the Finnish manufacturer Sako in the early 1970s. While some sources suggest that only about 80 units were made, other information indicates a slightly higher production number. For instance, discussions on the Sako Collectors Forum mention a serial number range of approximately 170, suggesting a production of approximately 170 units. However, a post on the TargetTalk forum references two versions of the Finnmaster, each with a production of about 90 units or fewer, totaling approximately 180 units. However, official records from Sako indicate that the Finnmaster was produced with serial numbers starting from 1 and ending at 170. This discrepancy in reported production numbers may be due to limited documentation or variations in record-keeping practices. Due to its extremely limited production, meticulous engineering, and purpose-built design for precision shooting, the Finnmaster has become a highly sought-after collector’s item, prized by enthusiasts of rare and historic competition pistols.

Designed specifically for Olympic-style 50-meter free pistol competitions, the Sako Finnmaster is built around a precise single-shot, falling-block action, renowned for its smooth operation and exceptional accuracy—key attributes for competitive target shooting.

To accommodate shooters of all preferences, it was produced in both right- and left-handed models, reflecting Sako’s attention to ergonomics and customization. Original examples were often supplied complete with the factory box, detailed blueprints, specialized tools for maintenance, and instructions in Finnish, emphasizing the manufacturer’s commitment to craftsmanship and supporting the needs of serious marksmen. Due to its extremely limited production, meticulous engineering, and purpose-built design for precision shooting, the Finnmaster has become a highly sought-after collector’s item, prized by enthusiasts of rare and historic competition pistols.
