Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Savage Model 1919 NRA and Model 19 NRA rifles come from the same line of Savage’s early .22 match and training rifles produced from 1919 through the 1930s. Early 1919 rifles were advertised as NRA models but were not always marked, while later 19-series rifles—including the Model 19 NRA, 19-33, and 19 Target—carried updated markings even though the designs all share the same lineage. The original 1919 design appeared in both small-port and large-port configurations with a dual-firing-pin bolt, and in 1923, Savage introduced the improved Model 19 NRA with a redesigned bolt, updated stock, and refined sight mounting. Later versions received upgraded sights, stock changes, and optional target configurations such as the 19-L and 19-M. Because markings vary by production period, identifying these rifles is best done by their serial range and physical features, not just the barrel stamp. Today, the Savage Model 1919 NRA rifles are quite collectible, appreciated for their place in early American small-bore competition history and for being the foundation of the entire Model 19 series.
