The Savage 6A is a semi-automatic rifle that uses a tube magazine to feed 15 rounds of 22LR ammunition. It is popularly known as the Springfield Model 87 and Ranger 110. The rifle has several interesting features, such as the bolt that can be locked open or closed by pushing in the bolt handle/knob, and the ability to remove the action from the stock by loosening a single knurled action screw on the bottom of the stock. The bolt can also be removed from the rear of the receiver with a knurled action nut. The rifle has a quick-adjust rear sight elevator and a front sight that can be drifted side to side for windage.

The most interesting part of the 6A is its action. The bolt stays back after firing until you release the trigger, which gives the rifle action a unique "click-clack" sound when firing slowly. Technically, you can use the bolt handle lock to enable the rifle to shoot short and long 22s in manual mode, but it's not necessary as 22LRs work just fine without it. The ability to easily lock the bolt back is more useful than the ability to lock it forward. The Savage 6A is a versatile rifle that can be used as a bolt action or automatic. It's a fun little rifle that's great for plinking and reminiscent of the post-war glory days of American gun ownership when every kid got a .22 for Christmas, and no one ever worried about it!
