Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Savage Model 24 is a unique firearm that is made in the USA by Savage Arms. It is an over-and-under combination gun that features a .22LR over .410 gauge, with 24-inch barrels and a length of 41 inches. The gun can be easily disassembled, which makes it convenient to store and transport. The Model 24 was first introduced as the Model 22-410 by Stevens Arms in 1938. During World War II, the United States Army Air Corps purchased around 15,000 Model 22-410s for use as survival guns. However, in 1950, Stevens stopped producing the 22-410 firearm, and Savage introduced a similar gun, the Model 24.
The Model 24 was produced in various versions, including a pistol grip model that is only 26 inches long. The upper rifle barrels were chambered not only in .22 LR but also in .22 WMR, .22 Hornet, .222 Rem, .223 Rem, .30-30 WCF, .357 Magnum, and .357 Maximum. The lower shotgun barrels were chambered for .410 gauge, 20-gauge, and 12-gauge. The gun came with both wood and plastic stocks that may or may not hold extra ammunition in the butt, as well as a variety of finishes and grades.
The Stevens and early Savage models come with a single trigger and an exposed hammer. They also have a barrel selector on the right side of the receiver. To switch to the rifle barrel, move the selector upwards, and to switch to the shotgun barrel, move it downwards. Please note that these models don't have manual safety. However, later models have the selector on the top of the exposed hammer, where you can switch to the shotgun barrel by pushing it forward/down and to the rifle barrel by pulling it back/up. These models also feature a cross-bolt hammer-block safety through the receiver for added safety.
The Model 24 is a versatile firearm that is suitable for hunting, survival, and general shooting purposes. It is a reliable and durable gun that has been appreciated by enthusiasts for many years. However, the Model 24 was discontinued in 2010, making it a collector's item for those who enjoy its unique design and functionality.
