Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The single shot shotgun has been around for a long time. It has a good reputation for a lot of good reasons. It doesn't cost much to buy, it has a simple mechanism, and is easy to use. Savage Arms is an American gunmaker based in Westfield, Massachusetts, with operations in Canada. Savage makes a variety of rimfire and centerfire rifles, as well as Stevens single-shot rifles and shotguns.
The Savage Arms (Stevens) Model 940 was made from 1961 to 1970. It is the single shot shotgun that took the lever from the top and moved to the side where its practically under your thumb at all times. This improvement may not have been earth-shaking, but it makes it easier to open and makes this model ideal for beginners! This example is chambered in 12 gauge 2 3/4" and features a 28" barrel with Full choke bore. It wears a blue barrel with color case hardened frame and smooth walnut furniture.
