Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Introduced in 1940 by Savage Arms Company, which had acquired A.H. Fox Co. in 1929, the Fox Model B was designed as a more refined alternative to the Stevens Model 311. It quickly became a popular choice for Savage, remaining in production until its discontinuation in 1986. Available in 12, 16, 20, and .410 bores, the 12-gauge model typically came with barrel lengths of 30, 28, and 26 inches, while the 16 and 20-gauge versions were offered with 28 and 26-inch barrels and occasional 24-inch barrels. All .410 models were fitted with 26-inch barrels. The Fox Model B featured a simplified Anson & Deeley box lock action, incorporating a single underbolt operated by a Scott spindle top lever. The hammer and sear mechanism was powered by coil springs, enhancing the shotgun's durability and making it a reliable firearm that seldom needed repairs. Model B was crafted with walnut buttstocks and forends, giving it a classic appearance. The buttstock was securely attached via a through bolt, while the forend was held in place by a self-adjusting spring tension latch, preventing it from loosening over time.

Starting in the mid-1950s, the pistol grip was redesigned for improved ergonomics and featured a black plastic grip cap. The original forend, which was a larger version of the traditional splinter style, was later replaced with a beavertail forend for better handling. Early models showcased hand-cut checkering, which was replaced in the 1960s with a more intricate, impressed checkering pattern. During the first two decades of production, the Model B came with a raised solid rib, which was eventually swapped out for a ventilated rib, enhancing heat dissipation and offering improved comfort during extended use.
