Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Savage Model 73 is a classic single-shot .22 rimfire rifle that reflects the legacy of craftsmanship and simplicity long associated with Stevens Arms Company, a name that became part of Savage Arms in 1920. Chambered in .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle, the Model 73 was built as a reliable and affordable rifle for target shooting, small game hunting, and training young or novice shooters. It features a 20-inch blued barrel, a smooth hardwood stock, and blade front with adjustable rear sights, allowing for accurate, iron-sight shooting across varied rimfire loads. The rifle's single-shot action encourages careful aim and safety-focused shooting, while the overall lightweight and compact design makes it ideal for field use or casual plinking.

This rifle traces its heritage back to the deeply rooted traditions of Stevens Arms, which began in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts in 1864 under the guidance of founder Joshua Stevens, a noted firearms innovator. Over the decades, Stevens became one of the most prolific and respected names in smallbore firearm production, known for rifles like the Favorite, Crack Shot, and Ideal models. As the company evolved and was eventually acquired by Savage Arms, it continued to produce no-nonsense, dependable firearms like the Model 73. This model preserves the legacy of Stevens' focus on accessible marksmanship, offering a simple, elegant platform for shooters of all ages. Though not as ornate or collectible as earlier lever-action or falling-block Stevens rifles, the Model 73 remains a solid example of 20th-century American firearm design—functional, well-built, and rooted in a rich gunsmithing tradition.
