Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
EXAMPLE A
Colt produced two limited-edition versions of its 100th Anniversary 1911 pistol. The first, model 01911ANVII, features a slide enhanced with scroll engraving and decorated with historic Colt symbols highlighted in 22 kt. gold. It’s finished in polished royal blue on all surfaces and sports smooth Cocobolo grips with 100th-anniversary gold-plated medallions. The M1911 (also known as Colt 1911 or Colt Government in the case of Colt-produced models) is a single-action, recoil-operated, semi-automatic pistol chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. The pistol's formal U.S. military designation as of 1940 was Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911 for the original model adopted in March 1911, and Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911A1 for the improved M1911A1 model, which entered service in 1926. The designation changed to Pistol, Caliber .45, Automatic, M1911A1 in the Vietnam War era. Designed by John Browning, the M1911 is the best-known of his designs to use the short recoil principle in its basic design. The pistol was widely copied, and this operating system rose to become the preeminent type of the 20th century and of nearly all modern centerfire pistols. It is popular with civilian shooters in competitive events such as the International Defensive Pistol Association and the International Practical Shooting Confederation.
The 1911 and 1911-A1 pistols served the military of the United States from 1911 to 1985 through two World Wars and the Korean and Vietnam wars. They gained a reputation as reliable handguns with plenty of stopping power and are held in high regard by those who have used them. The design resulted from a series of developments by famous gun designer John Browning, starting with the Model 1900. The advances made by Browning were revolutionary then and so successful that they are considered commonplace today. Browning not only developed first a pivoting and then a tilting barrel to allow for a locked system, but he also developed the concept of “the slide,” which is now synonymous with semi-automatic handguns. Having secured a contract for the US Military sidearm, Colt also offered the pistol to the commercial market as the “Government Model.” This is a WWI Replica's 100th anniversary Colt commercial Government Model made in 2011 by the Colt Custom Shop.
The Colt M1911 100th Anniversary Tier I Custom Shop is a stunning tribute to the iconic M1911 handgun. This masterpiece is available in four variations, each with a unique standard engraving coverage: A, B, C, or D. This specific example features "C" Engravings. The gun boasts a powerful .45 caliber with a sleek blue finish that gives it an elegant and modern look. What makes this commemorative piece truly special is the gold inlaid serial number and the inscription "1911-2011" on the slide. These details honor the 100th anniversary of the M1911's inception and make each unit even more unique and valuable. The gun is a collector's item, with only 100 units manufactured in 2011 across all four engraving patterns. The quality of the workmanship and attention to detail in the engraving make each unit a true work of art that gun enthusiasts and collectors alike will appreciate.
