SPECIFICATIONS:
Manufacturer: Sharps & Hankins
Model: 3B "Pepperbox"
Serial: 1083
Caliber: .32 Rimfire
Finish: Blue
Barrel Length: 3 1/2"
Optics/Sights: Fixed
Stock/Grips: Checkered "Gutta Percha"
Action: Single; Rotating Firing Pin
Markings: The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS SHARPS & HANKINS PHILADELPHIA PENN.". The right side of the frame is marked "C. SHARPS PATENT/
JAN. 25. 1859".
Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
This is exactly what the Mississippi gamblers carried on the River Boats after the Civil War for self protection. Featuring FOUR barrels, each in .32 Rim Fire that fired individually by way of a single action hammer with a rotating firing pin. Easy to conceal, these were very popular.
The barrel is easily removed by pulling down the button on the left side of the frame and sliding the barrel off forwards for reloading with the hammer in the half cock position. The underside of the barrel is marked with serial number 1083 on the dovetail, which is also marked on the bottom of the grip. This is a all-matching example of the RARE Sharps & Hankins Model 3B Pistol, a predecessor to the later Sharps 4A "Bulldog".
Return Policy:
We gladly offer a 3 day unfired inspection policy from the time that the firearm is delivered to your FFL. Refunds are available for all qualifying orders.

Overall metal finish is still excellent for its age. The blueing throughout is still intact with only normal wear to the barrel. The hammer has some fire blue finish remaining on some of the smaller parts of the firing mechanism. The markings on the pistol remain crisp and fully legible. The grips show some light wear and scattered handling marks but show no real damage or abuse. They have a rich chocolate color with a reddish undertone that is very attractive. The advance lever for the rotating firing pin works very well on this example, and we did not notice any mechanical issues. The bores on the barrels are all clear, and still have clear lands and grooves, with partly bright finishes.
An interesting stepping stone in 19th Century American firearms. Nice matured condition ready to display.
