Bryant Ridge Auction Company is pleased to present this K-Target frame double-action revolver today for a penny start auction; this is the Smith & Wesson 14-5, also known as the K-38 Masterpiece!
"The Twelve Revolvers". In 1990, S&W manufactured a series of twelve different guns for Ellett Bros. of Chapin, South Carolina. These firearms were sold by subscription, with one gun offered each month. The guns are sequentially numbered from one to five hundred and each has an action scene engraved on the sideplate. They were created with a special theme based on the early S&W advertising paintings. Each set of twelve revolvers was delivered with a special calendar book that featured color artwork of each revolver for that month. However, S&W did not fully complete this series due to a parting of the business relationship. The number of full sets completed is unknown. The Twelve Revolvers can be found in full or broken sets.
This is the August Edition of the Twelve Revolvers named "The Last Stand", identified as 14-5. It comes with a Nickel finish, an 8 3/8" barrel, a .500" target hammer, and a .400" serrated trigger. The gun has a red post patridge front sight and a black blade rear sight. It is also engraved with a scene from The Last Stand and the relevant lettering.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model K-38 Target Masterpiece Revolver, also known as the Model 14, is a six-shot, double-action revolver that comes with adjustable open sights. It is built on the medium-size "K" frame and is chambered for the .38 Special cartridge. Most models are equipped with a 6 in or 8 3⁄8 in barrel, but a few have shorter 4 in or 5 in barrels. The revolver was first produced in 1947 and was originally called the K-38 Target Masterpiece. In 1957, all Smith & Wesson revolvers were given numerical model numbers, and this revolver was renamed the Model 14. The K-38 model is built on the same medium-sized frame (K-frame) as the Smith & Wesson Model 10 ("Military and Police") revolver. It was authorized for duty with the Los Angeles Police Department in the 1960s and early 1970s.
