Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this desirable double-action revolver today for a penny-start auction; this is the Smith & Wesson 24-4 “Through the Line” Edition!

This example is part of Smith & Wesson's “The Twelve Revolvers” series. Manufactured in 1990 by Smith & Wesson for Ellett Bros. of Chapin, South Carolina, this limited series featured twelve different revolvers sold by monthly subscription. Each gun showcased an engraved action scene on the sideplate, was sequentially numbered from 1 to 500, and was themed after early S&W advertising artwork. A special calendar book accompanied each set, featuring color artwork of each monthly revolver. Due to a discontinued partnership, the series was never fully completed, and the exact number of complete sets remains unknown. Revolvers appear today in both full and partial sets, originally packaged in two-piece metal-cornered boxes.

This specific example is the July edition "Through The Line". It features a scene from "Through The Line" on the right of the frame. It is number 58 of 500, which is also marked on the right of the frame. The right of the barrel features "THROUGH THE LINE". This edition stands as a fine representation of the craftsmanship and historical homage that define the Twelve Revolvers series.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
This Smith & Wesson Model 24-4 “Through the Line” is part of the rare and collectible “The Twelve Revolvers” series, produced in 1990 by S&W exclusively for Ellett Bros. of Chapin, South Carolina. The series consisted of twelve unique revolvers released monthly by subscription, each featuring a distinct engraved action scene on the sideplate inspired by vintage S&W advertising artwork. Every revolver was sequentially numbered from 1 to 500 and delivered with a themed calendar book showcasing color illustrations of each month’s edition. However, the series was never fully completed due to the termination of the business relationship between Smith & Wesson and Ellett Bros., and the total number of complete sets remains uncertain. Today, these revolvers are found in both complete and partial sets and were originally packaged in two-piece boxes with metal corners.

This particular example is the July edition titled “Through the Line.” It features an engraved scene on the right side of the frame depicting the artwork from which it takes its name. “THROUGH THE LINE” is also inscribed on the right side of the barrel, while the frame is marked with its series number, 58 of 500. Chambered in .44 S&W Special, the Model 24-4 sports a 6.5-inch blued barrel, a pinned blade front sight on a ramp base, and an adjustable rear sight. The revolver is fitted with checkered walnut grips inlaid with S&W medallions and operates with a traditional double-action mechanism. This edition stands as a fine representation of the craftsmanship and historical homage that define the Twelve Revolvers series.
