Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 242, chambered in .38 S&W Special +P, is a double-action-only revolver introduced in February 1999 at the SHOT Show and available by mid-March that same year. Built on a newly developed round-butt aluminum alloy L-frame with three screws, this revolver marks the first "Centennial" model constructed on anything larger than a J-frame in Smith & Wesson's history. Alongside the Model 296, it features a 2.5-inch barrel, a fully concealed hammer, and fixed sights. Notable features include a smooth .312" combat MIM trigger, a pinned black ramp front sight, and a 7-shot titanium cylinder measuring 1.625 inches. The revolver is rated for .38 Special +P ammunition and is marked "38 S&W SPL. +P" on the left side of the barrel shroud, with "SMITH & WESSON" on the right side. Its innovative two-piece barrel design consists of a barrel shroud and a threaded barrel, which is tightened to the frame using a special wrench.
