Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson .32 Double-Action 4th Model is a compact, top-break revolver chambered in .32 S&W. It was offered with barrel lengths of 3, 3.5, or 6 inches, and finished in either blue or nickel. This model features a pinned round blade front sight and a rear sight notch integrated into the raised barrel latch. It is equipped with a five-shot fluted cylinder measuring approximately 0.92 inches in length, and a rounded trigger guard that replaced the reverse-curved design of earlier versions. The sideplate is located on the left side of the frame and secured with a single screw. The round butt is fitted with checkered black hard rubber grips bearing the S&W monogram. Like other top-break Smith & Wesson designs of the era, it incorporates an automatic extractor that ejects spent cartridges as the action is opened. Serial numbers for the 4th Model range from approximately 43,406 to 282,999, with about 239,600 produced between 1883 and 1909.
