Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Fifth Change represents incremental changes to the functionality of the lockwork. Changes to the hammer and sear as described by Neal & Jinks don’t make much sense by themselves: “The hammer, trigger, and sear were redesigned to allow double action throw off the hammer point instead of the sear.” But clarity is obtained when one reads the 1909 patent. The raised portion on top of the rebound slide is changed to allow a shorter rebound. The patent date is removed from the rebound slide. The positioning mechanism for the extractor star is changed to two pins on the front of the cylinder. The extractor rod knob is no longer removable, but is fixed to the rod. Some guns have a small Smith & Wesson trademark logo on the side and a few, apparently late, examples have a large logo is on the sideplate on the right side, while some guns in this period have no logo.

Condition and Contents:
As you can see in the many high resolution photos, this Smith is in great condition overall, taking in account of its age and model!
