Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson .32 Single Action—also known as the Model One-and-a-Half Centerfire—is a top-break, single-action revolver featuring automatic extraction and a rebounding hammer, an improvement intended to reduce the risk of an accidental discharge with a live round under the hammer. It is fitted with a five-shot fluted cylinder measuring approximately 0.92 inches in length. Standard barrel lengths were 3 inches and 3 1/2 inches, with 6-inch barrels considered scarce and 8- and 10-inch barrels very rare. Factory finishes were typically nickel, with blued examples being uncommon; the barrel latch was finished in blued steel. Gold or silver finishes were available by special order. The hammer is checkered and case-colored, as is the trigger, which is checkered at the tip. Grips were most commonly checkered hard rubber in black or brown, while mottled red hard rubber or plain wood grips are encountered less frequently. The revolver uses a birdshead grip profile on a round-butt frame with a left-side sideplate retained by two screws.

Three distinct styles of hard-rubber grips are observed: early plain-checkered grips without an S&W logo (approximately serial numbers 1–15,000), followed by checkered grips with a plain block-letter S&W logo (about 15,000–29,000), and finally checkered grips with the intertwined S&W monogram (roughly 29,000–97,500). The front sight is a pinned round blade set into the barrel rib, while the rear sight consists of a notch cut into a raised portion of the barrel latch. The revolver is equipped with a spur trigger and no trigger guard. Matching serial numbers are typically found on the cylinder face, barrel, frame, top latch, and grips. Serial numbers range from 1 to approximately 97,574, with production generally dating from circa 1878 to 1892.
